On 22nd December, a stray dog left a young man injured in the Sinhagad Road–Donje area. The incident has once again brought the spotlight on the growing stray dog menace in residential localities of the city.

Youth bitten while walking

According to media reports, the incident occurred when the youth was walking through the area and was suddenly attacked by a stray dog. He sustained bite injuries on his leg and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Doctors administered anti-rabies injections, and his condition is reported to be stable.

Residents said the attack was unprovoked and added to the prevailing sense of fear in the neighbourhood.

Residents flag repeated incidents

People living in Sinhagad Road, Donje and adjoining areas said stray dog attacks have become frequent, particularly during early morning and late evening hours. They said that repeated complaints have been made to the Pune Municipal Corporation, but no effective or lasting solution has been implemented so far.

“This is not a one-off incident. Stray dogs roam in packs here, and the fear among residents is steadily increasing,” a local resident said. Locals added that children, senior citizens and morning walkers remain the most vulnerable.

Civic response awaited

Civic officials said the issue has been referred to the animal husbandry department of the Pune civic body, and a team will be dispatched to assess the situation. Citizens have been advised to report aggressive dogs immediately and avoid provoking stray animals.
