Rabid dog attacks in Sasaram spark panic after dozens bitten across city localities
On 18th December, a rabid stray dog went on a biting spree in Sasaram, Bihar, and attacked around 70 people across multiple neighbourhoods. The incident created widespread panic and anger among residents. Children, women, and elderly persons were among those bitten as the dog moved through crowded localities.
According to media reports, the incident began near the Mahaddiganj area and continued through Gopalganj, Baulia Road, and other parts of the city. Eyewitnesses said the dog bit anyone who came in its way, leaving several people with deep injuries. Near the Baulia Road overbridge, the dog attacked four members of a single family, including a one-year-old child.
All injured persons were rushed to Sasaram Sadar Hospital, where emergency treatment was provided. Hospital authorities confirmed that anti-rabies injections were administered immediately and wounds were dressed to prevent infection.
Speaking to the media, hospital manager Ajay Kumar Gupta stated that the hospital is witnessing an alarming rise in dog bite cases, with more than 80 patients reporting daily for treatment. He added that the administration has ensured adequate availability of anti-rabies vaccines and deployed additional staff to handle the growing number of cases.
The incident sparked strong public outrage, with residents demanding an immediate drive to capture stray and rabid dogs. Locals warned that unless urgent steps are taken by the civic administration, such large-scale attacks could lead to fatalities, especially among children and the elderly.
