Gujarat: Rabid dog terrorises Daruniya village in Godhra, woman and elderly man hospitalised

On 21st December, a rabid dog created panic in Daruniya village and nearby areas of Godhra taluka in Gujarat. The dog attacked pedestrians, pilgrims, and even livestock. Several people were injured, and the incidents triggered fear among residents.
According to media reports, the dog went on a rampage through the village and surrounding areas. It targeted people walking on the road and animals roaming in the area. Those injured in the attacks were rushed to the Godhra Civil Hospital for treatment.
Woman pilgrim attacked during Jain pilgrimage
The incident first came to light near Abraham Patel’s Muwada, close to Daruniya village, where a Jain community members were passing through the area for pilgrimage. During the procession, the rabid dog suddenly attacked a woman pilgrim, biting her repeatedly and leaving her bleeding. Fellow pilgrims and locals intervened and helped shift the injured woman for medical care.
Elderly man mauled outside his house
In another incident, Babubhai Gamerbhai, a resident of Dholi Faliya in Daruniya village, was sitting outside his house when the dog attacked him without warning. The animal reportedly knocked him to the ground and bit him at multiple places. Hearing his screams, villagers rushed to the spot and managed to rescue him.
Livestock also targeted, villagers attempt capture
The dog did not restrict its attacks to humans alone. A cow roaming in the village was also attacked and injured, further escalating panic. Alarmed by the situation, villagers took to the streets carrying sticks and wooden rods to chase away or capture the dog. Despite sustained efforts, the rabid dog could not be caught. Authorities have been informed about the incidents.
