On 22nd December, a 50 year old woman was seriously injured after being attacked by a stray dog near Aliganj Chungi in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Kotwali Nagar police station. The incident has once again raised concerns over the growing stray dog menace in urban areas.
The victim has been identified as Leelavati, a resident of Hindu Nagar. She was immediately rushed to Virangana Avantibai Medical College, where she was admitted for treatment. Doctors said her condition was serious but stable.
Attack while returning home
Speaking to the media, the family of the victim said that the incident took place at around 3.30 pm when Leelavati was returning home after crossing Aliganj Chungi. As she reached near the crossing, a stray dog suddenly attacked her, biting her and causing severe injuries. Passersby alerted the family soon after the attack.
On receiving information, family members rushed to the spot and shifted her to the emergency ward of the medical college without delay.
Leelavati’s son, Subhash Kumar, said his mother was on her way back home when the stray dog attacked her without any provocation. He added that incidents involving stray dogs have become frequent in the area, but no effective preventive steps have been taken so far.
Residents have demanded immediate action from the local administration to control the stray dog population and prevent further attacks in busy localities of Etah.
