In the intervening night of 5th January and 6th January, a rabid dog went on a biting spree in Susari village of Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh, injuring at least 11 people. The sudden and repeated attacks triggered panic among residents, with the dog targeting people on village roads and public squares.
Attacks across key locations
According to media reports, the dog began attacking around 8 pm. It moved aggressively through Hathai Chowk, Azad Chowk and nearby areas. Passersby and locals were bitten as the animal kept changing locations, making it difficult to restrain it. The pattern of continuous movement added to fear, and villagers were forced to remain indoors.
Victims rushed to hospital
All 11 injured persons were taken to the civil hospital in Kukshi for treatment. Doctors administered primary medical care along with mandatory anti-rabies vaccination. One woman, who sustained serious injuries, was referred to Baroda for advanced treatment.
Authorities issue alert
Village panchayat secretary Hiralal Sirvi said that a public announcement was made to alert residents and advise caution. Efforts are underway to trace and neutralise the animal to prevent further incidents.
Dr Rahul Mandloi from the Kukshi hospital confirmed that the condition of most injured persons is currently stable. The incident has once again highlighted the recurring danger posed by stray and rabid dogs in rural areas, raising questions over preventive measures and rapid response at the local administration level.
