On 9th February, a disturbing incident came to light in Dombivli, where a 7-year-old girl was attacked by a pack of stray dogs while heading to school. The incident took place inside Orchid Society in the Khoni Palava area, raising serious concerns over safety within gated residential complexes.

According to media reports, the child had stepped out of her house as part of her daily routine when around 10-15 stray dogs, sitting inside the society premises, suddenly began chasing her from behind. Startled and terrified, the girl ran in different directions in an attempt to escape, which further agitated the dogs. The pack continued to pursue her as she screamed for help.

Security guard intervenes in time

Hearing the child’s cries, a security guard deployed in the society rushed to the spot and drove the dogs away using a stick. His timely intervention prevented a potentially fatal incident. Several residents also rushed to her help. The entire episode was captured on the society’s CCTV cameras.

While the girl did not sustain serious physical injuries, residents said she has been left deeply traumatised by the attack.

Residents demand urgent action

The incident has sparked fear and anger among residents of Orchid Society and neighbouring areas. Locals have demanded immediate and concrete measures from the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation to control the growing stray dog population in the upscale Palava locality, warning that inaction could lead to more such incidents.
