On 1st March, a minor altercation over chasing away stray dogs in Kanpur’s Barra area escalated into a violent assault, leaving a father-son duo injured. The incident took place in B Block, Barra 8, which falls under the Gujaini police station limits.
According to media reports and the FIR accessed by the Stray Dog Menace team, the complainant, Rahul Kumar Gupta, was driving away stray dogs standing outside his house. A self-styled dog lover woman started abusing him. When he objected, she allegedly called her associates.

Soon after, Prince Tiwari, a resident of Barra 8, arrived at the spot along with others and allegedly attacked Rahul and his father with sticks. The complainant alleged that the accused struck his head and issued threats to kill them. Local residents intervened after hearing the commotion, preventing further escalation. The accused reportedly fled the scene.

The FIR has been registered under Sections 115(2), 352 and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Three accused have been named, including the woman and Prince Tiwari, along with one unidentified associate. The complainant has sought appropriate legal action.
Gujaini Station House Officer Rajan Sharma confirmed that Prince Tiwari has been arrested and sent to jail under preventive action for breach of peace. The role of the other accused persons is under investigation, and further arrests are expected.
The incident once again highlights how even attempts to remove stray dogs from residential spaces can trigger violent confrontations, often fuelled by aggressive reactions from self-styled dog lovers who treat public safety concerns as provocation rather than precaution.
