On 20th December, a pack of stray dogs attacked an 11-year-old boy, leaving him seriously injured near the Tibbi railway crossing in Phagwara, Punjab. Child attacked while playing near railway tracks
The victim has been identified as Piyush Kumar, a resident of the Tibbi area. According to media reports, Piyush was playing with other children near the railway tracks when several stray dogs roaming in the area suddenly surrounded them. While the other children managed to escape, Piyush was cornered and attacked by the dogs. Speaking to the media, his father Vikas Kumar said that the incident left the child with severe injuries to his face.
Doctors said condition of the child is stable
Piyush was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries and anti-rabies shots were administered. According to doctors, the child required 10 to 12 stitches on his face. Medical staff said that timely treatment prevented further complications and that his condition was stable.
Residents blame civic body for inaction
Locals have accused the civic body of inaction despite repeated complaints about stray dogs in Phagwara. The population of stray dogs has increased rapidly over the past few months. Locals said strays can be seen roaming freely in residential colonies, near schools, railway tracks and marketplaces. Their presence poses a constant risk, particularly to children and elderly residents.
