However, on 16th December, after the fourth anti-rabies injection, Nisha’s health deteriorated rapidly and she died due to rabies infection. Her death has triggered serious concerns about the functioning of the municipal administration and the public health system. People have expressed anger and stated that fear has gripped the locality.
Child attacked while playing near home
According to media reports, Nisha was a resident of Bedekar Nagar on Diva Agasan Road. On 17th November, she was playing outside her house when a stray dog suddenly attacked her. Nisha sustained serious bite injuries. She was rushed to a government hospital in Dombivli, where doctors began treatment and administered anti-rabies injections.
Condition appeared stable initially
During the initial stage of treatment, doctors told the family that her condition was stable. On 3rd December, Nisha celebrated her fifth birthday. Doctors reportedly reassured the family that she was recovering from the injury. On 16th December, she received her fourth dose of the anti-rabies vaccination, after which her health rapidly deteriorated.
Later, doctors confirmed that rabies symptoms had begun to appear, which raised serious concerns over the treatment protocol, monitoring, and the timing of medical intervention.
Shifted to Kasturba Hospital, dies during treatment
As her condition worsened, Nisha was referred to Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai. When she arrived at the hospital, doctors said her condition was extremely critical. The child died during treatment, as once rabies symptoms appear, death is inevitable.
