Bihar: Woman dies after stray dog attack in Muzaffarpur, days after toddler’s death

The woman was mauled at more than two dozen places near Sahpur Chaur in Bochaha limits. Residents cite unchecked meat waste, growing fear, and a series of earlier dog attacks that have left several victims severely injured.

On 5th January, a 65-year-old woman died after a brutal stray dog attack in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district. Two other women injured in the same incident remain under treatment. The victim, Pahaldiya Devi, succumbed to her injuries at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital. All three women were attacked on 3rd January.

The attack occurred near Sahpur Chaur under the Bochaha police station limits, where three women had gone for daily work. According to the media reports, the stray dog mauled Pahaldiya Devi at over two dozen places, leaving her critically injured. Villagers chased the dog away and rushed the injured women to hospital. Mohidan Khatoon and Julekha Khatoon are currently undergoing treatment.

Locals flag rising stray dog aggression

Residents allege that improper disposal of meat and fish waste has made stray dogs increasingly aggressive in the area. Police station in charge Shrikant Chaurasia confirmed the death and said senior officials had been informed to address the stray dog menace.

Series of fatal attacks in the region

The incident comes shortly after a 3-year-old girl was killed by a dog attack in Paroo in November 2025. In that case, a pet dog being walked by its owner turned violent and fatally injured the child, who later died during treatment at SKMCH.

Several other attacks have been reported from Bochaha, Minapur, Maidapur and Shafuddinpur in recent months, including cases where victims suffered severe scalp and facial injuries. Public anger is mounting as residents say repeated attacks have continued despite earlier fatalities and serious injuries.
