On 26th January, a woman identified as Shalini Dubey sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a neighbour’s pet dog while out on a morning walk in HSR Layout’s Teachers’ Colony in Bengaluru. The incident occurred around 6.55 am, leading to police action against the dog owner for negligence. CCTV footage of the attack has gone viral on social media.

The dog reportedly knocked her to the ground and bit her on the face, neck, hands, and legs, causing heavy bleeding. She is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
CCTV footage captures attack
According to media reports, the entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed at the victim’s house. The footage shows the unleashed dog charging at Shalini and attacking her head and neck after she fell. Amaresh Reddy, the owner of the dog, is seen attempting to pull the dog away, succeeding only after a brief struggle, allowing the injured woman to regain her footing and retreat indoors.
The video showed family members of the victim and neighbours gathering outside the house when the unleashed dog again managed to escape the owner’s house, showing that even after the serious attack, the owner failed to leash the dog.
The family prioritised medical treatment, leading to a two day delay in lodging the complaint. The FIR was formally registered on the evening of 28th January.
Husband alleges gross negligence
Shalini’s husband, Satya Prakash Dubey, who filed the complaint, alleged that the attack occurred due to the dog owner’s failure to follow basic safety norms. “On the morning of 26 January, my wife went for a walk around 6.40 to 6.50 am. In front of our house, our neighbour’s pet brutally attacked her because the dog was left without a chain, mouth cover, or any safety protocols. By God’s grace, she survived, but she has a five to six centimetre deep cut on her neck and severe injuries on her face and scalp. She is in trauma. We want justice,” he said.

Based on the complaint, police have booked Amaresh Reddy under Sections 117, 125, and 291 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, dealing with causing hurt, rash or negligent acts endangering life, and negligent conduct with respect to animals. Further investigation is underway.
