The incident occurred on 19 February in Shravan Kanta Colony under the Ayodhya Nagar police station limits. Two women, identified as Vandana Sen and Lakshmi Thakur, sustained serious injuries after they were attacked with a sword by self-styled dog lover Ashok Chauhan.

According to media reports, the residents of the colony were troubled by the increasing number of stray dogs. The dogs chased bikers, barked at pedestrians and created a climate of fear in the area. Following repeated complaints, the municipal corporation’s dog squad team picked up the stray dogs from the colony. However, the civic body’s action irked the dog lovers and they secured the dogs’ release. They were brought back to the locality.

This led to arguments between women residents and a woman associated with animal activism, along with her family members. The dispute over the removal of stray dogs soon turned violent.

Abuse, intimidation and sword attack caught on CCTV

According to the complaint, Chauhan reached the colony on Thursday morning with his wife, daughter and an associate. He began recording videos outside one of the complainant’s houses and abused the women. When Vandana Sen objected to the filming and verbal abuse, Ashok allegedly pulled out a sword and attacked her.

She suffered a deep injury to her right hand. Media reports suggest that a vein was severed. When Lakshmi Thakur intervened, she was attacked as well and sustained a serious injury to her abdomen. Both victims were rushed to the hospital and are undergoing treatment. CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media.

The complaint in the matter has been filed by Surender Thakur. In his complaint, he said that the accused keeps stray dogs in the colony and that the residents have long been distressed by their aggressive behaviour.

Ayodhya Nagar SHO Mahesh Lillare confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Ashok Chauhan under attempt to murder and other relevant sections.

Additional DCP Gautam Solanki said, “This incident pertains to Swaran Kanta Palace under Ayodhya Nagar police station limits, where one person injured two women. There was a previous dispute between them related to a dog.”

Media reports suggest that Chuahan has a history of violence in guise of being an animal lover. He regularly interfere in residential colonies and initimidate those who oppose him. A review of Pipliyahana police station records has confirmed that three serious criminal cases were already registered against Ashok. Following the latest sword attack, police are now preparing to open a history sheet against him, signalling stricter surveillance and possible preventive action.
