On 5th January, a 9-year-old boy was grievously injured after being attacked by a neighbour’s pet dog in Biramau Vishun Datt village under the Kadhai police station limits of Pratapgarh district. The incident occurred in the Belkhar Nath Dham area, triggering panic among residents.

The injured child was reportedly playing at a neighbour’s house when the dog suddenly turned aggressive and lunged at him, inflicting a serious bite injury to his neck. Hearing the child’s screams, family members and villagers rushed to the spot and managed to rescue him from the animal.

Condition critical, anti-rabies serum required

The child was initially taken to the community health centre, where doctors administered anti rabies vaccination and a tetanus injection. However, due to the severity of the neck injury, he was referred to the district medical college for advanced treatment.

Hospital authorities confirmed that the child requires anti rabies serum, which was not available at the primary facility. He has since been shifted to the District Medical College Pratapgarh for further care.

Doctor urges timely vaccination

Superintendent Dr Arif Hussain stated that the child’s condition remains serious but stable. He advised the family and the public to ensure timely anti rabies treatment in all animal bite cases and to exercise caution around both stray and pet dogs.

The incident has once again raised concerns over dog bite incidents and the availability of life saving anti rabies serum at local health centres.
