On 25th February, a 2-year-old girl sustained severe injuries, including deep cuts on her lips, cheeks and near her eye, after she was mauled by a stray dog in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar.

The incident took place in the Diamond Galli area of Old Mangal Bazar. The victim, identified as Sidra Israr Sheikh, was outside her home when the incident occurred. According to media reports, the toddler was walking on the street moments before the stray dog suddenly attacked her.

The dog knocked the child to the ground, began biting and dragging her. Her screams alerted a woman inside the house, who rushed out and bravely intervened. She managed to chase the dog away, preventing further harm. The animal then fled the spot.

Child undergoing treatment

Sidra was immediately taken to a nearby hospital in a bloodied condition. Doctors confirmed that she has sustained deep facial wounds and is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition has left residents shaken.

Anger against civic authorities

Following the incident, local residents and the area’s corporator have criticised the municipal administration. They said that repeated complaints and warnings about the growing stray dog menace in the area were ignored.

According to locals, the threat posed by stray dogs has persisted for months. They argue that timely action by authorities could have prevented the brutal attack on the toddler.
