On 22nd February, a 3-year-old girl was brutally attacked by a stray dog while playing outside her home in the Govindgarh Jogian area of Ludhiana. The incident has once again exposed the worsening stray dog menace in the city.

The victim has been identified as Chandni. She was playing in the street with other children when the dog suddenly pounced on her and began biting her head and face. Her father, Chandan, said he was at work when his wife called to inform him that their younger daughter had been severely mauled.

By the time local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the child’s screams, she had already suffered serious injuries and was bleeding profusely.

Doctors describe condition as extremely critical

The child was initially referred from Sahnewal and rushed to the Civil Hospital in a critical state. Doctors described the attack as exceptionally brutal. One doctor on duty stated that flesh was hanging from multiple parts of her head and face, and the wounds were deep, requiring nearly 35 stitches.

Though her condition has now stabilised and she has been shifted to the ward, the family remains traumatised.

The Civil Hospital reportedly records nearly 500 dog bite cases every month. In January alone, over 1,400 cases were documented in the city.
