Between 22nd December and 27th December, over a dozen people have been bitten by a stray dog in and around Azadnagar’s Shrilal Durga Welfare Society. Several women and two delivery workers were among the victims. Repeated incidents have forced residents to restrict their movement, especially after dark. Speaking to the media, locals said children have stopped playing outside and stepping out alone has become risky.

The incident has left 45 households in the area in fear. According to the locals, dozens of stray dogs roam the surrounding lanes. However, one dog in particular has turned aggressive and attacked people.

Women and delivery workers among victims

Between the night of 26th December and throughout 27th December, at least three people were bitten, including 57-year-old Indra Yadav, 32-year-old Deepak Pal, who is a delivery worker, and 61-year-old Kamta Prasad Gupta. All the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. According to locals, stray dogs chasing pedestrians and two wheelers has become a common scene in the area.

Residents seek civic intervention

Locals have demanded urgent action from the Municipal Corporation. They have urged officials to capture the dogs and relocate them to shelters to restore a sense of safety in the neighbourhood.

Speaking to the media, Dr Abhinav Verma, Animal Welfare Officer, said, “If information has been received, representatives of the concerned institution will be sent to the spot. If the dog is found to be aggressive, it will be isolated.” However, inaction from the authorities has led to panic in the region.
